CAROL TODD PRESENTATIONS are OCTOBER 3rd: Bullying, Cyberbullying, Sexting and the Responsible Use of Social Media
At Paul Rowe Jr/Sr High School we have the great opportunity to educate students while maximizing their safety and well-being.
As several studies show, the time youth spend online continues to increase as well as the various online and social media platforms available. The benefits of our digital age are countless, and so are the risks. Due to these risks, Peace River School Division has invited Carol Todd to provide school-based and community presentations regarding bullying, cyber bullying, online safety, social media and sexting in several school communities.
Carol Todd lost her 15 year old daughter Amanda in 2012 when she took her own life in response to cyber-bullying and harassment. Carol is a parent, an educator and since her daughter’s passing, she serves to create greater awareness and understanding surrounding bullying, mental health and cyber safety. She founded the Amanda Todd Legacy Foundation in 2012 and since then has provided presentations for various schools and organizations in Canada, the United States and Europe. Carol is currently working in the Learning Services Department for Coquitlam School District No. 43.
Paul Rowe will host a presentation for students (grades 8-12) and a community presentation (open to all community members) on October 3rd, 2017. The student presentation will begin at 1:00 pm and the community presentation at 7:00 pm in our school gym. Please note that our families are more than welcome to attend both the student and the community presentation. Due to the sensitive nature of this topic, we have included a permission form to ensure families are aware of the presentation and to provide their consent. Kindly sign the consent form (handed out to students at school) and return to the school by the 29th of September if you would like your child to participate.
